Spinner dolphins in the Red Sea

A weeklong live aboard holiday with Gaïane, Tom Fitz & Phoebe Fitz

Spend a week swimming with wild dolphins in the Red Sea in one of the most important dolphin habitats in the world. Located off the south-eastern point of Egypt, the bay of Sataya is home to an incredibly diverse array of animals, including a large community of wild spinner dolphins.

The trip will depart from Marsa Alam, Egypt, and venture to Sataya, six miles off the Egyptian coast. Guests will stay on the Sharky, a beautiful live-aboard yacht 29 meter in length.  

Activities will include :

  • Snorkelling and freediving with the wild dolphins, respectfully
  • Scuba diving on the coral reefs
  • Yoga sessions at sunset
  • Film screenings and lectures

Evening entertainment will include presentations and film screenings by 6-time Emmy award winning natural history cameraman Tom Fitz.

Expedition team :

Tom is a cameraman, producer and director specializing in natural history films. As a freelance cameraman, Tom has worked for the BBC, PBS, NHK, National Geographic, and many more. He is best known for his work on Planet Earth I and II, Blue Planet I and II, Racing Extinction and LIFE.
Tom spent four years working on a language acquisition project with bottlenose dolphins before beginning his career as a filmmaker. The majority of his first projects as a cameraman centered around dolphins and whales.
Phoebe is a stills photographer specilizing in underwater portraiture and fine art photography. She works as a camera assistant for her father Tom on many of his natural history shoots. Phoebe is a RYT 200 hour vinyasa yoga teacher and will be teaching yoga classes aboard the Sharky.
As a naturalist with a passion for our oceans and their good health, Gaïane beliees in making a difference by offering a rich and positive encounter with underwater life – especially that of the spinner dolphins in this extraodinary location. Gaïane will hold informative talks about the local flora and fauna, including elements of dolphin behavior and coral biology.

Price: 

Base price is €1065 per adult and includes transfer to and from Marsa Alam airport; sailing taxes; twin bed in a shared en-suite cabin for 7 nights; all meals, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks on the yacht; activities. The price does not include snorkeling equipment; scuba diving equipment (available for rental on the yacht); crew tips; alcoholic drinks; lunch and drinks on the last day (July 6th).

Families with children are welcome. Base price per child between the ages of 2 and 6 is €815. Base price per child between the ages of 7 and 15 is €915.

 Flights: 

It is possible to include a return flight Brussels – Marsa Alam (€600 with Brussels Airlines) to the base price and meet in Brussels on the morning of the 29th of June. Guests are encouraged to arrive early or stay on after the excursion to explore the amazing culture of Egypt. Please e-mail Gaïane at consciencebleue@gmail.com if you have any questions about flights.
